Join "Vilaco supporting the journey back to school" for pupils affected by Typhoon Yagi
Vilaco recently took part in "Joining Hands To Support The Journey Back To School", bringing meaningful support to pupils in the areas affected by Typhoon Yagi. The programme was held at Tan Hop Primary & Secondary School, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province, and Uc Ky Commune Kindergarten, Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen province – two areas that suffered heavy damage in the storm.
Storm no. 3 caused enormous damage across the provinces and cities of the north. From 08 to 11 September 2024, Typhoon Yagi left very serious damage at Tan Hop Primary & Secondary School, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province. The water rose extremely high (about 150cm above the record set by the 2008 storm) and stayed up for around 02 days and nights, going far beyond any forecast and beyond what the school could cope with, and so caused heavy damage.
Prolonged heavy rain, along with thunderstorms and squalls, damaged many schools across Thai Nguyen province. According to the Thai Nguyen Department of Education and Training, as of 8/9 a total of 25 schools in the province had been damaged by storm no. 3. Uc Ky Commune Kindergarten, Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen was one of the schools hit hard by Typhoon Yagi.
After Typhoon Yagi left heavy damage across many areas, repair work was quickly carried out at the schools to make sure the pupils had the conditions they needed to study and go about their day. At schools such as Tan Hop Primary & Secondary School (Yen Bai) and Uc Ky Commune Kindergarten (Thai Nguyen), clean-up work and repairs to the facilities were carried out promptly.
Volunteers and teachers worked together to clean the classrooms and dormitories and to restore the desks, chairs, boards and damaged teaching equipment. The children's personal belongings and school supplies were also cleaned and put back in order so that they could go on studying in a clean, safe environment. The flooded areas were cleaned thoroughly to prevent any risk of disease.
The community pulling together did not only help repair the damage; it also created a spirit of solidarity and hope in the areas hit by the disaster.
Vilaco stood alongside the schools, bringing meaningful and practical gifts to the pupils of Tan Hop Primary & Secondary School, Van Yen district, Yen Bai province, and Uc Ky Commune Kindergarten, Phu Binh district, Thai Nguyen province – areas hit hard by Typhoon Yagi.
The programme aims to support and encourage the children through their difficulties and to help them carry on with their education in good spirits and with hope. Through it, Vilaco hopes to play its part in building a brighter future for pupils in disaster-hit areas.
